Hockey is considered the most successful Olympic ball sport in Germany. And Hamburg is one of the strongholds of German hockey. As state youth trainer, Stephan Haumann is responsible for screening and promoting talent in the Hamburg Hockey Association (HHV). He also works as a video analyst for the German women's national team and is therefore well connected beyond the national association.

High effort due to inefficient Excel workflows

In order to make it into the selection squad of a sport, not only talent and commitment, but also optimal training conditions and professional sports support are required. This includes the regular review and documentation of performance in athletic and technical areas.
This creates a lot of data that is collected and evaluated by various trainers. The HHV kept numerous Excel tables for this purpose, but this proved to be inefficient in the long run. Existing databases such as the DOSB, in turn, were too inflexible. That is why Stephan Haumann developed an individual solution with Ninox.

Tens of thousands of performance data on demand with Ninox

The starting point and focus of the Ninox solution is the athlete database with currently around 400 perspective, selection and national players of various age groups. During performance tests, the values of the eight different exercises are recorded directly on site using an iPad, stored centrally and statistically evaluated.
The coaches can immediately see in which disciplines the athlete has improved or worsened and how the performance is compared to that of other athletes. In addition, written notes can also be stored, attendances or delays recorded and training groups can be formed at the push of a button, which significantly increases the practical value of the solution. Master data on clubs, coaches and schools is also managed with Ninox.

With his Ninox solution, Stephan Haumann has significantly improved talent screening and promotion at HHV. Previously, on-site performance data was often recorded on paper, later transferred to Excel spreadsheets, and the files were stored on a cloud service for shared access. This caused a great deal of effort, often led to various data sets and made evaluations difficult.

Thanks to Ninox, every trainer involved now has access to all relevant data at any time and can, for example, see at a glance how a player has developed over a specific period of time. This allows individual adjustments to the training and also helps with conversations with the players, their parents or other coaches.

The Ninox solution is now used not only at HHV, but also by coaches from the German Hockey Federation.
